We love this carrier. We bought it to haul extra camping supplies for our Ford Freestyle, and it sits far enough back, it just barely allows us to open the tailgate without canting the carrier downwards. My wife and I assembled it in around 45 minutes using the tools provided plus a drill and wrench to mount the license plate hanger (included). This carrier slides into our hitch easily, and works as described. It safely held (3) camping chairs, (4) sleeping bags, (4) pillows, (1) inflatable mattress, and (1) emergency roadside kit for our travels to and from the camping site, and once there, it held (6) bundles of wood and a large cooler.We like that it has a plastic shell on the inside that we can pull out and clean. We like the fact that we can cant the unit back (although we don't need to with our vehicle), and we like the fact that Thule provides a good all-in-one tool to fasten the bolt to the hitch. Read more Great Alternative to a Roof Rack, Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Thule Transporter Combination Hitch Cargo Carrier (Misc.) I bought this for my wife's Ford Flex bc she had a vista roof that would not accommodate a roof rack. I have to say that the sacrifice in space(not much with 13 cubic feet offered)is more than made up in ease of use. I no longer have to spend the time and waste the stress of setting up a roof rack. Plus, you don't have to worry about fuel consumption going up. We broke the unit in on a 2,000 mile family trip and it worked great. The initial set-up took about 30 minutes, but I don't think that it will be a problem the next time around. I would recommend the Thule to anyone. |
